Interview for Emirates Airlines: dream career :)

So as I promissed, here is a feedback from the Emirates Airlines interview which took place in Kyiv, Ukraine on March, 10th. Actually, this story is very short because I didn’t get even to the second part of the interview. Still, those, who are interested in this job will find some helpful info reading each feedback, even the shortest. I know that  because that’s what I was doing before the interview – surfing the internet for any info.
So the morning started from preparing to the interview: ironing blouse and a skirt, making a donut-bun hairstyle and make-up. When I came to the hotel where the interview took place I saw like 100 people there. That was not an Open day but the CV submission. So we needed to be registered before through our agencies. Some of my friends who applied for this position through the Emirates website didn’t get the invitation. So try to find some agency who will help you to register for the interview. NOTE: agencies don’t get money from you, they get their % from the company they look people for, so if you’re asked to pay any money for coming to the interview – that’s cheating. So a guy from one of agencies held a list where our names where. We had to give the CVs with our photos to him and to fill some info for a company on forms. Then we took our sits in the conference room and the HRs came. They couldn’t provide any slideshow to us because their luggage with their laptops were lost in Frankfurt so they were just telling us a story about Emirates Airlines. Then people who had any questions started to ask them about different things. Right after that we were asked to come one by one to the HRs and reach the 212 cm poster and then a short interview. As I reached the 212 and even more on Qatar Airways interview I was not worrying about that thing any more so I just came to the sticker and tried to reach the top of it -  and wwhooah! I hardly could reach it! That means that they stick their poster higher that 212, like 218 or more. So people like me with 160 cm height can’t reach it even if they have long arms. I thought that HR liked me because she was trying to help me to reach the top of sticker, telling me to stand closer and closer to the wall and then said: “just on”. That didn’t sound good for me. Anyway, I sat at the chair and she started to ask me some questions about my working experience and about some difficult customers. Then we were asked to leave the room and wait in the hall, we spent their around 2 hours waiting. After that HRs invited us again and gave us the envelopes where we found info about success or failure. As they don’t give any feedbacks, I think I was denied because of my height. I’ll tell you more about it in the next story about the second Qatar Airways interviewJ
It’s very hard to join the Emirates Airlines, only 2 of 134 who came on that day passed all the stages. But if this story will help you a bit, that means I don’t waste my time writing all thisJ
Good luck! God bless!

Qatar Airways: excellence in everything we do - on the ground or in the air;)

So first of all I want to say hi to everyone who decided to join to this beautiful job opportunity. I decided to become a cabin crew long time ago but should have waited till graduation. Right after graduation I applied online for cabin crew position for Qatar, Emirates and Etihad, also to IUA and Windrose(the Ukrainian charter airline company). At the same time I started to work for the event-company in my city, while my CV was waiting to be noticedJ. Etihad was the first who short listed my CV and called for an interview, but they have had no open days or CV submissions in Ukraine and I didn’t have any chance to go to Paris, for example, for an interview. So, unfortunately, I had to refuse the Etihad’s invitation and I was still waiting for some news from other airlines companies. I already had a friend who had worked at Qatar Airlines and she was really happy to be a part of their team. Finally I’ve got an invitation from a recruitment agency to the Emirates interview, so I started preparing for the meeting – reading forums, examples of questions and answers which were usually giving at the interviews for a cabin crew position. Suddenly I knew that one of my sister’s friends went to Doha for training for Qatar Airlines and when I asked her some questions about the recruitment process, she has told me a lot about it. And she also told me that Qatar Airlines is currently looking for a number of air hostesses all around the world. That’s how I got the info about the soonest interview in my country, but in a city 400 km far from my location. Anyway, I bought a short-sleeved white blouse and learnt how to make a donut bun hair style which is common according the cabin crew fashion. So, finally I went to Odessa, where the interview took place and met a girl from my city at McDonald’s in the morning who came to this interview too. We dressed up, put the make-up on and did our best in hair style and went to the hotel where the open day took place. There were around 80 people already in and some of them were still coming. When we came into the conference hall where the Qatar’s HRs were waiting for us, we took the sits and started to watch the slide-show which was describing the company we were applying for. Also Emmie and Katrina, the HRs, were telling us different facts about recruitment process, company’s history, life in Doha and, of course, working process and rules of employment. Some people were still coming to the room, lating, we knew that there was no need for them to come at all: if you’re late for the airlines companie’s interview , no matter it would be 2 or 20 minutes – you fail the test. Cabin Crew has to be punctual – that’s a rule, very important rule. While we were watching the slide-show the HRs were screening us, checking some psychological things. Then we were asked to come to the HRs one by one and bring the CV, also answering some simple questions. After this process we were free to leave and were asked to watch the phone as the short-listed candidates would be called for the next stage – English test and 212 cm checking. Emmie called me one hour after we left the hotel and invited to come again next day. My friend didn’t get a call, she had to go home at the same night. They give no explanations why you are not good for them, so you can only imagine what you need to work on to upgrade yourself to the suitable level. I came back to the hotel next morning and was really nervous, don’t know why, but that was my first interview for the airlines and I was not sure if I could reach the 212 cm with my hand as I was only 160 cm in height and I also got a cat-scratched scar on my right hand. I knew that it would totally disappear in one or two weeks but they could not know that was just cat’s scratching, not the permanent one. When I came to reach the 212 cm sticker, I did it and was happy but I guess they saw that little scar and when they asked me if I have any tattoos, piercing or scars on my body I said ‘no’. I think they treated it as lying, unfortunately. So, always say the truth! That is important. I did the entire English test, including the essay part but there were a few mistakes as I knew so I was worrying because of that. Anyway, when I was coming to the HRs to reach the 212 cm sticker I was really-really nervous, my hands were shaking and so on. Never do that! Control yourself! Nobody needs a nervous and scared airhostess at the plane where 600 of scared passengers sit. So that was my biggest problem, I guess. After they checked our tests, they called the reference numbers of people who should stay and they didn’t call for my number. Wow, that was bit sad but I have never thought that I can get this job right after the first try. Anyway, I’ve got a good experience and now I know how to behave and how not at the Emirates interview which I would visit just after 2 weeksJ I ‘m really in love with this job and will try to join the Arabic cabin crew team again and again, thanks God, I just got a call and was invited for another job which will be good to work at while interviewing. And I’ll post an additional experience from the Emirates interview right after the assessment day, maybe I’ll be good enough for them?;) I do hope!
Remember, if you’ve got a dream – go and get it! The only person who follows his dream – wins in result!:) Good luck!
